The Quatro was danced in Saint-Petersburg on music of Milko Lazar choreographed by Edward Clug

Mariinsky theatre is occupied by Leonid Yakobson’s Spartacus renewal, the opening night will be at the beginning of July. The favourite choreographer of St. Petersburg inhabitants create this ballet in 1956 using Khachaturian’s music (it means much earlier then Yuri Grigorovich), but the performance has disappeared from the repertoire for so long since deep soviet times. Yakobson wished to pass on the greatness of the Rome trough its sculptural, massive, monumental aspects. A distinctive target for the live art of ballet, and there is no surprise that the premier dancer of Marrinsky Leonid Sarafanov is not involved to this renewal: light and nimble he seems to be not able at all to stay in place and less then anybody good for such games as “freeze!”. He hasn’t the summer premier at the theatre, that’s why he has concerned about the premier for himself. Together with the friend and the colleague Denis Matvienko they have ordered to the artistic director of Slovenian Ballet in Maribor Edward Clug the one-act ballet on the music of Milko Lazar, invited the ballerinas from Mariinsky (which are also their wives) Olesya Novikova and Anastasia Matvienko, and performed Quatro on the rented stage of Mikhailovsky Theatre.
